Butterflies need
the Sun to fly!
We found out in Mexico, butterflies only fly when the
sun is out. They have special solar cells oneir wings
that are receptive to the sun their wings that are receptive
to the sun. The day Dale and Della went to the sanctuary
the millions of butterflies hung from the trees- not flying,
and you could see the duller side of the wings - it was
a cloudy day.
They were camouflaged and almost looked like leaves
on the trees.

A teacher friend, Mary went on a sunny day, two weeks
later ,and saw the orange side of the monarch wings because
they flew. Mary said the sensation of seeing so many butterlies
fly at once was awesome.
